Summer Cinema in Málaga 2026: Movies Under the Mediterranean Stars
The highlight of the season is Cine Abierto (“Open-Air Cinema”), Málaga City Council’s flagship summer film programme. Running from 2 July to 13 August, it features 105 free screenings across 18 venues in the city’s eleven districts, making it one of the largest outdoor cinema programmes in Spain.
Cinema by the Sea
Few experiences capture the spirit of a Mediterranean summer better than watching a film with the gentle sound of the waves in the background. Málaga’s beaches —including La Malagueta, La Misericordia, Las Acacias, and El Palo—once again become open-air cinemas, where audiences gather with folding chairs, beach towels and picnic blankets to enjoy films beneath the stars.
Most screenings begin around 10:00 or 10:15 p.m., when the daytime heat gives way to pleasant evening temperatures, creating the perfect atmosphere for an unforgettable night outdoors.
A Programme for Everyone
The 2026 programme offers a carefully balanced selection of recent box-office successes, acclaimed Spanish productions, international cinema and family favourites, ensuring there is something to appeal to audiences of every age.
This year’s edition, titled “Summer Love”, celebrates romance and fantasy with beloved classics such as Stardust and Ghost, offering audiences a magical cinematic experience beside the harbour.
Meanwhile, the Museo Picasso Málaga opens its beautiful garden for a special summer cinema series inspired by the exhibition Joana Vasconcelos: Transfiguration. Curated by the Portuguese artist herself, the programme explores the relationship between film, contemporary art and visual storytelling, creating one of the city’s most distinctive cultural events.
